… well, no doubt there’s many problems with Australia. But you know what I hate? Lack of retail competition. Resellers charging whatever they like for a product or service, simply because there is no-one (or hardly anyone) for them to compete with. Or, the companies in competition have a “silent agreement” to over-charge on prices. A classic example is the home phone – no matter who you go through, you get slugged with about $25/mo for line rental.
Anyway this has all come up because I need to buy a cable to connect my iPod into my car stereo. In Brisbane, the only place to buy Alpine gear is at Northfield. Their price? Ninty bucks. Ninty dollars for a couple of wires with some plugs on the end.
Jump on the net, and a quick Google finds the same cable for only $14.99 in the States. Pity they don’t ship to Australia. Pity I didn’t need it last week, or I could have got Monkey to get it for me.
