Last night was the first night off that I’ve had for ages. Bonus: Kristy had the night off too! To celebrate our freedom we decided that a DVD was in order. Unfortunately it was slim pickings down at Video Ezy Strathpine (well, I saw about 8 movies that I would have been happy to see; Kristy didn’t see any). So we decided that School of Rock looked like harmless fun, and hired it out.
Though not as bad as American Pie 3, School of Rock was not worth the $1.95 that we paid for it. The movie didn’t get off to a good start when I realised that Joan Cusack was in it. Top that off with the overacting of Jack Black, and you’re looking at a recipe for disaster. The story line is pretty flakey, fairly uninteresting, and of course – totally unbelievable. Though the film has a few funny moments and somewhat of a feel-good ending, they do not compensate for the otherwise dreary experience. Perhaps it would have been better for an under 14 audience, or those privileged few who have undergone a total frontal lobotomy. gerrod.com rating: 3/10.
