Tonight, David and I headed out to the flicks to see I, Robot tonight (second time for me). After seeing the preview for the up-coming Thunderbirds movie, David was horrified to learn that I have never seen a full episode of the original TV show (that I can remember, anyway). Consequently, he added the Thunderbirds to the ever-growing “Durham’s list of things that gerrod must watch”, which previously was only inhabited by movies:
- Predator (the original, 1987 version – since I haven’t seen it, and it’s apparently a pre-requisit for the upcoming AVP movie)
- The Blues Brothers
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
There’s probably a few more, but that’s all I can think of for now. No doubt David will correct my missing entries…

Predator has some fantastic one-liner’s in it. My favourite has always been “If it bleeds, we can kill it”. No prizes for guessing who says that.
Oh and a word from the wise about 2001. The ending is a total acid trip. I can’t imagine what Kubrick was thinking or taking for that matter. The book and the film were developed in tandem and in very close consultation between Kubrick and Clarke. But the hyperspace sequence in the film has nothing in common with the book. As is to be expected the book is much better and you don’t finish it wondering what the floppin’ heck was that all about then! But if the burger was to give his all time must see sci-fi film it would have be “Predator”. I mean c’mon “If it bleeds, we can kill it” is just pure gold! Unlike Kubrick’s pretentious twaddle. A shame really ’cause it might put people off an excellent book.
well – add to that
dont forget the quote from predator – “I aint got time to bleed – well u got time to duck” [fires mortar]. Its a classic – up there with gone with the wind.
Harley and I saw King Arthur on the weekend, and if you like medieval fight scenes or Keira Knightly, I recommend it. Also, Harley learnt what a “bastard” really is.
