How to: Fix the car stereo

Pulling apart the console

After cleaning the car yesterday, I decided it was time to attempt to pull apart the car’s centre console, and install the cable that Cousin Nat sent me last week. And thankfully, it turned out to be a lot easier than I had expected. Basically, there’s 2 screws just under the stereo that hold everything in place. Once they were removed, the whole console front just slid out!

Unfortunately, a few of the cables were a bit short, which made manuvering a little difficult… but with some help from my gorgeous assistant Kristywe soon had the whole thing wired up. A little bit more jiggling, then a couple of screws, and everything was back in the right place.

iPodCar

Last thing to do was take it for a test run. In went iPod, and out came music. Success! Mobile MP3s like never before. Unfortunately today I found out that I had forgotten to reconnect the demister switch, so I had to pull it all apart again. But hey, you gotta expect a couple of things to go wrong. Now all I need is a cable tie, to keep things in place when iPod isn’t connected. A little dock would also be nice, but I’m not a picky man (and as I’m pretty sure that such a thing doesn’t exist, my wishes would go unfulfilled, anyway).
