My past experiences with Knocky (known to gerrod.com’s more refined readers as Gnocchi) have been both tragic and limited. Many, many years ago in a suburb far far away (ok, it was Strathpine) I cooked, or rather ‘reheated’, a packet of Latina Not-So-Fresh Knocky. In theory you can’t go too far wrong with Latina so I figured the sticky, sickly mess I produced was indicative of a flawed pasta concept. Why on earth would you want to make potatoes look like pasta anyway? It’s that kind of trickery that leads to dining disappointments I say.
Anyway, I digress. After that experience I never went back for more and dismissed Knocky as a crazy italian idea that would never take off. But last night my world was turned on its head as Allie ‘What? This old meal?’ Morgan served up the most delectable three course dinner featuring, you guessed it, Knocky. Showing their characteristic flair for entertaining guests, Allie & Steve dimmed the lights, filled the house with ambient candlelight, and impressed us with the aforementioned meal, a good drop of red, and some very *ahem* cultured conversation.
Moral of the story? Anything Latina can do, Allie can do better, and after that enlightening experience, I might even give that Ravvy-holy stuff another go…
