Gothika

To pass time whilst sick yesterday, I got out a few flicks (and only managed to watch 1 before falling asleep). Gothika was top of the list, since it was the only overnighter that I had.

The movie is about a criminal psychiatrist – Dr Miranda Gray (Halle Berry) – who wakes up one day as a patient in her own ward, with absolutely no memory of the past 3 years. Accused of a horrible crime, the movie follows her efforts to piece together what happened since the last night that she remembers, and all the while trying to prove that she isn’t crazy.

The film is eerily atmospheric, with lots of those scenes where freaky images are thrown at the screen in quick succession, accompanied by screams and other such terrifying noises. The plot is pretty good, and it was both well acted and directed. Overall though, I thought there was something missing, but I’m not sure what it was – I just didn’t feel satisfied at the end. Still, if you’re into movies about the supernatural, and you watch it alone in a dark room, with the sound up nice and loud (as opposed to a very sunny room in the middle of the day, like I saw it), I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. gerrod.com rating: 7/10.

Hey Jodie!

Wow, cool! I didn’t know you read the site! It’s funny that you said “Jodie Carter, Meegs sister” – I knew exactly who you were… actually, I think you’re the only Jodie that I know! :-)

Anyway, thanks for the correction. 3 days makes much more sense than 3 years. But like you said, I was sick, so, oh well!
