The easiest way to beat the movie-going crowds is to buy the DVD from Canada before it’s even showing at the cinemas. This was the case with Hellboy, which Ian bought and had loaned to me. The previews for the film looked totally awesome, so I figured I was in for a wicked flick.
Man was I disappointed. All the way through, the movie struggled to define what genre it was, trying (and failing) comedy, action, and thriller. There wasn’t a single element that stood out as being well done. Storyline: weak. Effects: Very average, mostly unrealistic. Sound: Unexciting. Acting: Passable. I found it difficult to believe that a film with so much potential could be so boring to watch – I’ll be happy to hand the DVD back to Ian, me thinks! gerrod.com rating: 4/10.
