To some of you, it’s probably no big deal – but today I’m wearing a “shirt & tie”. Ordinarily my work attire consists of jeans (shorts in summer) and a t-shirt, so getting fancied up is somewhat of a rare thing for me. Seemingly it was a surprise for my colleagues as well, with no less than eight comments about my gear before lunch. Well, here’s some news for y’all:
- I am not going for a job interview
- No-one I know has died recently, so I’m not going to a funeral
- I’m not going for my drivers licence (why would I wear a tie for that, anyway?)
So what’s with the fancy pants? Since the boss is away today, I had to sub in for a presentation that we were hosting for a whole bunch of industry service provider heavy-weights. Though I felt I could do an adequate presentation wearing my designer jeans, apparently this wasn’t acceptable.
But anyway, I guess that dressing up is just par for the course – and the most important thing is that it’s appreciated. For example, when the guy giving the talk (name purposely witheld) introduced me, he said: “And now I’ll hand over to Gerrod Thompson to give the technical presentation.”. Errol laughed. I shook my head. Still, I did my piece and then quietly returned to my seat, hoping no-one would ask any questions. At the conclusion of the presentation, I then got, “…and thanks to Gerald for the presentation of the website“. Errol laughed, again. I shook my head, again.
Gerald? Thompson? The least old-mate could have done was to get my name right. Then again, maybe it’s time to change my domain name.

That’s harsh Derek. Really harsh. Keep your chin up though, big fella! The people who really matter know your name… right folks?

Yours, Kirsty
See! Even the presenter didn’t recognise you in your spiffy attire.
I’m really sorry that people get your name wrong. I understand your pain Jarrod.

It sucks that when you registered your website that they even got it wrong and spelt it with a ‘G’. What is with that?

Don’t worry – as Christie said "The people who care won’t get it wrong.".

B – for Bob.
