The Village

Bender and I have just come back from seeing The Village – the latest movie from M.Night Shyamalan. It was fantastic! Fans of his previous movies (Signs, Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense) will definately love this one too.

The movie tells the story of a village living in constant fear of “those of whom we do not speak” – monsters with an efficiency for killing that lurk in the surrounding woods. For years the villagers have lived peacefully with their fear keeping them safely out of the woods, until a series of events occur that shakes their way of life. (It’s hard to say too much about the plot without giving anything away, sorry).

Admittedly, the movie was not what I expected; I had gone in thinking it would be a lot scarier than it was. Now, that’s not to say it doesn’t have it’s moments (oh it sure does) – but as with Shyamalan’s other films, the best part is the twists, and I didn’t see any of them coming. Perhaps that makes me naieve, but at least it means I get the full shock value out of each one! gerrod.com rating: 9/10.
