After dinner at Jo-Jo’s with David and his gang-of-Steves tonight, 3 of us headed up to catch Alien vs Predator. We figured it was the type of movie that’s best to be seen in the early days, before it gets yanked out of the cinemas for bad ratings.
Now personally, I was quite disappointed. I mean, sure – the special effects were good, and being played on the big screen certainly did it some favours. But with so much potential, it just failed to excited! Steve R (who had already seen the movie and didn’t join us for a second helping) said it best with “there’s just no tension”. After the movie, Steve W pointed out that the fights between the Alien and the Predator are few and far between. So the overall substance of the movie is basically just drivel.
I have no doubt the hardcore fans of the Alien and especially the Predator movies will be impressed by the makeover that CG has given to the creatures. But for the rest of you folks – well, I just wouldn’t bother – the most exciting part of the film was the preview for Open Water – now that looks like a movie that Kristy will enjoy…
