Back in Black Brisbane

Well, after a very exciting few weeks, our last two days in Bangkok were rather uneventful. Most of Thursday was spent organizing our excess 17.17kg bag to be sent back to Brisbane via Thai Cargo. By doing this we saved a lot of money from an excess baggage charge, but we effectively lost a whole day in organization.

We had a lazy start to Friday, getting out of bed at 11am then frantically packing for checkout at midday. Then it was back to MBK for some food, last minute shopping, and a hair-cut! Kristy was able to find the style she wanted in a magazine, but the only mags for boys were all of Asian men with hair very different to mine! So I sat down and hoped for the best.

At first, the guy said, “Little, little” which I figured meant “take a little off the ends” – pretty much what I wanted. Then he asked, “You want me to style?” which on reflection could have meant anything – but I said, “sure”. As it was getting shorter on the sides but not on top, I started worrying slightly. After about 25 minutes it became obvious that I was going to get a mohawk. Somehow I also ended up getting blond highlights! Oh well, at least it’s different!

Our flight home was much better than our flight over – Kristy and I managed to secure a whole 4 seats to ourselves and slept quite soundly. Unfortunately it was a very frantic afternoon that greeted us, organising our visas for the US and picking up our bag from Thai Cargo. Talk about efficient! First, we had to go to Patrick’s Air Services and pay a handling fee to get some documents. Then we had to drive down to AQIS (customs and quarantine), and declare to customs what the bag contained. At quarantine, Kristy had to pay another handling charge whilst I drove back to Patricks to pick up the bag. Finally, I drove back to AQIS so that quarantine could inspect and release the bag to us. All up it took about an hour of time wasting!

Anyway, we finally made it home, and since then have started the monsterous task of packing up the house. Thankfully we had an afternoon at The Normanby Hotel yesterday to catch up with so many of our friends before we jet off to NYC! It was great to see everyone there, and I hope you all had a good time! We’ve got a busy week ahead but hopefully we’ll get a chance to see as many more people as possible before we go.

Back to packing!

what – no updates – i cant believe it – you guys have nothing better to do that pack pack pack – - I say chuck it all out, buy up big in NY and spend some time on the web site.

I expect,

  • an update b4 u go
  • an update from Sydney
  • an update from LA
  • an immediate update in NY

If not – we have people who have people who have had people before and they will find u.
