One of the best things about the USA (compare to Australia) is that things here are cheap! A 6pk of Corona for example, is about $6.99 (about $9 after taxes) – that’s just unheard of! But of course, the thing that I find most appealing is cheap electronics.
My first purchase was a 1GB USB pen drive, from a Yahoo! shopping site that Craig pointed me to. A similar one at GameDude back in Australia retails for $165 – after currency conversion, mine will come in just under $100. Bargain!
My next purchase was a new Dell laptop. I pondered for ages trying to work out the best machine to get, and in the end I couldn’t go past this one. After fully spec’ing it up, it is over $1,000 cheaper for me to buy it here compared to in Australia.
The only downside is it won’t ship until December 20th. D’oh!

Hey what a coincidence I’m getting a laptop from Dell too! Mine won’t arrive until the 17th. Can’t wait!
When it come to electronics us Aussies get a royal shafting. Actually come to think of it I think we get shafted on everything. Just remember you have to bring all the stuff back with you
Yeah it’s a bit of a gip trying to buy things in Australia. Regarding carrying stuff back – we’re going to load up people with stuff when they come and visit
Just be careful, I have a funny feeling that there is some Australian tax/customs implications if you haven’t had it for 12 months or more. I’ll see if I can find out the details off Robyn cause I’m sure she had something similar when she was over there. Logical progression from there, buy lots now
