Dessert – Manhattan style

The U.S.A. really is the land of the dessert. Home to such delicacies as Krispy Kreme, Ben & Jerry’s, and Dunkin Donuts, it’s hard to argue that living here does not mandate a gym membership.

Anyway, post dinner last night, my tooth felt for something sweet. Craig convinced us that we should head out to Serendipity 3, promising that it made “killer desserts”. Unfortunately, since they made a movie by the same name (and involving said shop), the place’s popularity has soared. We were told to expect a 1 hour wait – so we set out for an alternative.

Dessert

We settled on the local Food Emporium, where we had been impressed by their range of desserts on an earlier occasion. Like a moth to a flame, Kristy was drawn to the mega chocolate brownie; Craig and I decided that the strawberry napolean was hard to go past. The sheer size of it was entertainment enough (shown here next to Craig’s outstretched hand), and I knew it would be a challenge to even get through half of that baby.

Unfortunately, it defeated me. I got about 2/3rds the way through it before I declared myself beaten. Thankfully, Craig was also decimated by the power of the sugar, so we both went down in flames together. Maybe one day I’ll be up to the challenge. One day…
