I know, I know. It’s conventionally a white Christmas that one dreams of, but since that didn’t happen I started dreaming of a white boxing day…. and my dream came true!
Christmas day was a lazy one in the Thomas household this year. After a big sleep in we started our Christmas feasting with pancakes, then moved on to lamb roast and new york cheesecake. We had some fun opening and modelling the wonderful gifts cousin Natalie sent us (thank you Cooke family!) then watched our favourite Christmas movie, Elf.
To make up for our Christmas inactivity and indulgence we headed our for a boxing day adventure. While walking down Fifth Avenue (gotta love saying that!) it started snowing! Tiny feathery flakes so small we actually didn’t believe it was happening! Much skipping and carol singing ensued!
Inspired by the TV show friends, we checked out the show’s merchandise in the NBN store, hunted for a cool coffee shop and found one in an awesome atrium, and trekked through Central Park in search of the fountain the cast dances in during the intro. We didn’t find it but photographed a lot of other cool stuff in the process including the lakes in the process of freezing over. After a coupla burgers on the upper west side we headed home to… you guessed it…. update the blog!
Here’s a quick slideshow of our day! Merry Christmas everybody!

Loved the pictures Gerrod – what’s the name of the two towers behind you when you’re on the bridge – they almost look identical???

Were there many people out that day?

Also, what’s Gmail???
Hi Kim!

The buildings are in fact the San Remo residential apartments. Rita Hayworth lived there until she died in 1987. Apparently Madonna applied to live there once, but the tennants rejected her application!

No, there wasn’t a lot of people out yesterday – I think it was too cold.

GMail is a free mail service, offered by Google. Similar to hotmail, but you get 1GB of storage, free! Want an account?
Hi Kim! The two towers are the top of one building – the Sam Remo Apartments. They were built around 1930 and are one of the most famous parts of the New York skyline (apparently). When they were built, developers were only allowed to make such tall structures if they used set backs and towers. Famous folk like Diane Keaton and Dustin Hoffman have lived here but apparently Madonna’s application was turned down.
Thanks to both of you for that information – I think I remember seeing them as a background in a movie (think it was Home Alone 2 I am embarrassed to say) and as soon as I saw your photos it reminded me.

Yes please Gerrod how do I get Gmail – I thought it was a site of yours – you know "G" for Gerrod.
Just wondering… did you guys move to New York so it was easier to get New York cheesecake?

DE
Well, no… but that’s definately a bonus
