Life update

It’s been a very hectic week for us in NYC.

After our excursion to Ikea last week, I managed to get sick – probably from the cold. By Monday, a decent cough had set in, as well as the aches, pains, and blocked sinuses to go with it. By Wednesday I could barely move out of bed, and so had the day off work. Thankfully things were looking up by the weekend, though even today the cough is still lurking!

Of course, the big news is that on Friday, Kristy and I moved in to our own unit! All of our furniture was delivered from Ikea by about 10am. Kristy diligently spent the day moving our things from the top floor of Craig’s place, to our humble 2nd floor. Though I’ll miss the feeling of importance when pressing the “PH” button (PH = Penthouse) in the lift, we do have the advantage of being able to run up a single flight of stairs to arrive right out the front of our door!

As you can imagine, a good part of the weekend was spent assembling the furniture, which all-in-all was sucessful. Only a single item (out of about 15) needs to go back – the little stubby things on one of the chairs doesn’t line up properly, so the back doesn’t sit in right. As I got paid early (Friday instead of Monday) we also spent another good part of the weekend shopping for various household goods – shower curtain, pots and pans, etc. We have a few deliveries still to come, and then we’ll be all set up.

Last night we headed down to PC Richards – an electronics store near Union Square – and bought a TV. We ended up with a 32″ (80cm) Sony Wega – nothing too fancy, but it should get us through. Hopefully by sticking with Sony, we’ll also get a good re-sale price when it’s time to leave.

Only a few things remain on our “things to buy” list, so I need to do some shopping online today. Unfortuantely we’re not “online” at home yet, and none of our neighbours are nice enough to have an unsecured wireless connection, like they did up at Craig’s apartment. Hence, the updates will be a little slower this week – sorry!

So that’s about it – you’d think I’d have been smarter and taken some photos of the unit, but no… ! I’ll take some tonight and update again for y’all.

Art Competition: Thank you all so much for the entries, they’re just amazing! I’ll be collating them all for presentation later this week. Stay tuned!
