Braving the freezing temperatures (it’s dropped well below zero again), Kristy and I headed out to be New York tourists for the day. Firstly it was off to one of our favourite places – Central Park – where 23 miles of orange gates have been erected, all in the name of art. Individually, each gate isn’t too impressive, but the fact that they’re everywhere makes it absolutely mind blowing. You can’t look anywhere without seeing masses of orange. (Still, you kinda have to look at them and think, “what’s the point?”) Anyway – my words can’t give them the justice they deserve, so check out the latest photo album to see them for yourself.

Next it was time for lunch, so we grabbed a few “slices” at “The Original” Ray’s Pizza. We’ve seen about 5 Ray’s Pizza’s during our time here, and each one claims to be the original. Not that it matters – they’re all great! I highly recommend the cheese slice with garlic and basil sprinkles – definitely the favourite.
Post lunch, we headed down to ABC studios in Times Square, where Good Morning America is filmed. For the past 10 days, a dude has been living in the studio, constructing the Manhattan skyline out of playing-cards. The whole thing is an effort to raise funds for the Tsunami victims. Talk about impressive – the display is just huge! I can barely build a convincing hut out of playing cards, yet this guy has built the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and Madison Square Gardens – just to name a few!

Unfortunately, you’re not allowed into the studio, so the only photos we could take were through the window… and with all the reflections, they didn’t come out too well. This shot of Madison Square Gardens is probably the pick of the bunch. If you watch Good Morning America tomorrow (Tuesday morning Brisbane time), they’ll be covering the story then, and I’m sure they’ll have plenty of shots of the final display.
All that walking made us pretty weary, so we headed home for a good sit. We polished our day off with a swim at the gym, then a 3 course meal that would have even impressed Pat. And the best news of all – tomorrow is President’s Day in the USA… so I get the day off. U-S-A! U-S-A!

Oh – I forgot to mention, it’s currently snowing outside harder than I’ve ever seen. The cars across the street are already nicely buried under a blanket of white
.
Dude, that pizza looks sweet. God, I could just jump over my own mother just to get one. There goes the diet.
howz the coffee over there by the way?
U-S-A! U-S-A!
What’s that all about. Don’t get too caught up in all that American hype @!#* (you’re not turning on us?). It must be the day off your going to have affecting you.
MCD: So far, the coffee bites! Well, that’s not entirely true… we just haven’t found anywhere that sells good coffe for a decent price. We’re eyeing off a Rancilio Silvia to kurb that problem though!
A!A!A!: Credit where credit’s due… a day off is certainly worth chanting about… but don’t worry, I’m a long way from turning… !
