Back to Ikea

It’s starting to feel like a trip to Ikea is a monthly tradition, but hopefully yesterday’s trip was the last we’ll need for a while. We had to return one of our chairs (the back didn’t go in properly), as well as pick up some curtains and other bits and pieces. We grabbed one of the first busses out there so we were at the returns desk by about 11am.

To make the trip a little more pleasent, we decided to grab some lunch at Jersey Gardens (the neighbouring mall) after returning our goods. The last time we were there, I remembered seeing a Chilis restaurant which I was keen to eat at. Last time I was at Chilis (in Florida with Cousin Nat) I had their ribs, and recalled they were delicious. Thankfully, I was not disappointed – the ribs were excellent! Nice and meaty, and lots of flavour… served with chips and cinnamon apple for only $15! Bargain!

CrowdedIkea

The bad news though was that Ikea seems to get really crowded in the afternoons. As soon as we walked in we were blown away by the mob of bargain hunters. Kristy and I don’t really do crowds too well so I knew it wasn’t going to be a pleasent afternoon. We shopped as quick as possible and managed to be back on the bus by about 4:30pm.

A trip out there always makes for a tiring day, but we had to head up to Home Depot to get some extra supplies for putting everything up. (We’re now the proud owners of a cordless drill!) So by the time we got home and had some dinner, we both crashed. And boy did we sleep well!

Unfortunately today we’ve had very little success as home handymen people. It turns out that the frame around our window is made from metal (it’s covered in plaster and painted, and looks more like wood), and we don’t have the right drill bits to make things work. Also, all our walls are made out of concrete – no dry wall – so we can’t get anything to hammer into them. If only Dad could pop over with his tools and know-how!

Usually the everyday drill bits you buy are good for wood, metal and plastics. It is only masonary or cement you need to get the special bits, as well as a hammer drill.
