Any movie that stars Bruce Willis as a cop is off to a good start in my books. I know I’ll probably get some flak for that, so if you didn’t like Die Hard 1 & 3 (I can’t remember the second one) then you can probably stop reading now. Hostage is a pretty self-explainitory title for this film. Without giving too much away, Willis is basically a cop working in a local county police station. A hostage situation arises at a wealthy family home, and things get even more complicated after Willis’ family becomes involved. The film then follows the efforts of Willis to save the family and resolve the situation peacefully.
I quite enjoyed this film. It’s dark enough to be intriguing, and provides enough tension to keep you interested. The acting is great, especially from the 3 young lads that create the hostage situation. Actually one of the guys does very well playing a classic psychopath, in the real sense of the word (having no regard for human suffering). Of course the film is not for everyone, and boys I don’t think you’ll have much luck convincing your lady friend’s that it’s a romantic comedy. Definitely worth shelling out your hard earned’s for a ticket, and probably even more so to see it on the big screen. gerrod.com rating: 8/10.
