A busy weekend

Jason and Craig

Another weekend has come and gone, and boy did this one fly by fast. Friday night whilst Kristy was out playing with Lucy, I hit the gym, then headed up to The Music Factory (Craig & Carrie’s – C&C, get it?) for an awesome pasta dinner. Craig and I then headed down to McSwiggans for an evening out with the boys. (Admittedly, it was just Jason, Craig and I, but hey, we’re all boys, so whatever).

It was good to hit the town with some locals, as I got a few lessons in NYC life:

 1. If anyone ever offers you a drink called a “Car Bomb”, politely decline. Well actually, you should try it once, then you’ll know why you should politely decline the next time.
 2. If you’re at the bar ordering a round of drinks, and barkeep asks “did the girl buy your last round?”, the answer is always “no”. Basically if “the girl buys a round”, it means that the round is on the house.

Saturday and Sunday we were lucky enough to have another Australian visitor! Mark was in town after a trip to Canada, and he was nice enough to pop in on the way through to say g’day. Kristy and I played tour guide, and took Mark to all the places he wanted to see (and some he probably didn’t know about).

Kristy and Mark

Saturday morning’s itinerary saw us visiting F.A.O. Schwarz, Trump Tower, Central Park south, and the Samsung Experience before we stopped for lunch at Wholefoods at the Time Warner center. Hungry for more, we then headed down to Union Square, to the new Joe’s for a coffee, and Greenwich Village. We ate dinner at a local restaurant called “Pescatore” that Kristy and I had been keen to try for ages – I’m pleased to report that their food was delicious!

Kristy

Whilst Kristy and I caught up on chores at home on Sunday morning, Mark headed out to the UN and took the public tour. Reports are that it’s quite interesting – Kristy and I really should do it one of these days! We ate lunch at the sushi place right under our apartment, then headed over to the public library. Believe it or not, that was my first time actually going in to the library, and it’s really cool! The construction is just fantastic, lots of old wood and marble everywhere, and heaps of really awesome old school paintings. Mark put it the best by saying it has a real Harry Potter feel to it. Highlights of the library include the Gutenberg Bible – one of only 48 in existance – and “Room 315″, which is where The Day After Tomorrow was set.

Of course, no visit to New York is complete without a trip to Times Square, so we polished off by heading there, into Toys ‘R Us, then for a coffee at some place with rediculously bad/rude service. (So bad, we didn’t tip). We said our farewells to Mark at his hotel, and headed back home.

Our weekend finished with a swim at gym (for Gerrod, anyway) and the always delicious Chipotle for dinner. Boy did we sleep well last night!

Room 315 is the Reading Room, also famous for the scenes in Breakfast at Tiffanys.

So if a round is on the house that means you don’t have to pay for it right?

What’s wrong with that?
