In America, daylight savings begins on the first Sunday in April, so our day started an hour later than it otherwise would have. Our plan was to grab some breakfast, then head to the Museum of Art to see a huge Salvador Dali exhibit.
Unfortunately, no-one explained to us that practically everything would be closed on a Sunday. We couldn’t believe it! Shops, restaurants, cafes – even the quaint little coffee shop we found on Saturday – all closed. Disappointed, we ended up at a small bakery near the convention centre for breakfast. After meandering around looking for places that were open, we gave up and headed back to the hotel to check out, then up to the Museum of Art.

Not only was the line for the Dali exhibit ridiculously long, but soon after we arrived the tickets sold out anyway. Luckily, Fairmount Park and the Schuylkill (pronounced “School-Kill”, tasteless eh?) River were close by, both things that we’d wanted to see.
After taking some more happy snaps, we headed back into town for some lunch. Again, disappointed that most things were closed, we ended up at an Irish Pub for fish and chips. They had Hoegaarden on tap, woohoo!
We were pretty much out of steam by the time we left, and also quite sick of things being shut. So, we finished our time in Philly wandering around the streets, taking a few photos and checking out the bigger chain stores like Tower Records and Borders, who happened to open on Sundays.

All in all, we quite enjoyed Philly, and would recommend it as a place to see. The city itself has beautiful architecture, and is very well laid out which makes it easy to travel around. Make sure you check out the photos from our weekend in the photo album.

At least it was only rain – rather than a snow storm that may have confined you to your hotel for 24 hours!
