Dinner at Mimi’s

There’s a little Italian restaurant down the end of our street (corner of 52nd and 2nd) called Mimi’s. We’ve been eyeballing it since we got here, as it looks very cosy inside and it’s always quite full. Tonight we decided that it was time to try it out!

We were assigned a window seat, right on 52nd. It was kind-of wierd sitting there, on our street, just watching the world go by – but wierd in a good way. Kristy gave them top marks for their super clean windows – not a fingerprint to be seen. Anyway, the service was pretty fast, and the prices were reasonable enough. We kicked off our dinner with bread (free!), and then a very delicious, generous proportion of lightly fried calamari. Yummo!

Kristy chose Linguini Carbonara for her main, which was a little disappointing. (The problem you see, is that a number of years ago we were spoiled with the best carbonara that we’ve ever eaten – home cooked by Allie. Worse still; she claims it was “far from her best” – yet we still haven’t found any that have even measured up.) My main was mussels – and again, a very generous portion! I counted 101 muscles mussels (thanks Spesh!) in my giant bowl, and though I could be off by a few, I’m sure you get the idea. Still, they were all a bit small, so I was really working for my dinner.

So overall – though our mains weren’t the best, we’d still happily fall back on another meal at Mimi’s if we couldn’t find anything else that tickled our fancy. gerrod.com rating: 6.5/10.

Did the muscles make your mussels bigger?! ;)

You are far too kind, and I think you have built my carbonara up too much that I can never dare make it again! Besides, the best meal ever was when we dined at your place. Kristy IS the Iron Chef! :-)
