Michelle recently gave us a tip-off that Aussie artist Missy Higgins would be making her television debut on Last Call with Carson Daly, a half hour, late night talk show hosted by, you guessed it Carson Daly, which films right here in NYC. At a guess, I’d say that about 40% of the audience were Aussies there to cheer Missy on.

So off we trekked to the NBC studios at Rockefeller Center with Carrie and her NZ friend Cathy, later meeting up with Lucy and her Aussie bud Beth. We stood for over an hour in three consecutive queues for tickets, security and admission. Finally we made it inside and secured front row seats – Lucy in front of the couch and us in front of the music stage. None of us had seen the show before, given that it airs at 1:35am on weeknights and were surprised to find that the host lacked any charisma. Rove McManus could totally whip him!

After interviewing Cedric the Entertainer (who was pretty darn funny) and a girl we’d never heard of called Chelsea Handler, it was time for Missy. As always, the 21-year-old Melbourne girl rocked. She chose to perform “All for Believing” which is a great song, though not our fave. We had hoped that she would be interviewed as well but time didn’t permit. The whole taping took about 30 minutes – half the time we spent in the queue!

Afterwards, Gerrod, Lucy, Beth and I grabbed at bite and a beer at the Heartland Brewery, sitting outdoors to enjoy the summer warmth. What a great night!

Missy is about to embark on a US tour, and I hope to catch her in concert again soon.
