In honour of Origin II we had a bit of an Aussie gathering at our place last night. Just a casual evening of ARL, Aussie music, and a coupla BBQ snags. Or so we thought.
After visiting seven supermarkets (Associated, Food Emporium, Fresh Direct, Dagostino, Gristedes, Fresh Direct and another Food Emporium) I have concluded that BBQ sausages are not available in NYC. Oh there are hot dog frankfurts by the dozen. And an impressive variety of ‘sausages’. You can get chorizo and fat breakfast sausages. You can get turkey, pork, cheese, lamb and duck sausages. You can get every variety of Polish, Italian and Thai sausages, many for as little USD 10 for three of these organic specialities. But no beef snags.
We ended up pretending that our pork, sundried tomato and herb sausages were old-fashioned ones, whacking them on a slice of bread and lathering them with onions and tomato sauce (NOT ketchup). It felt very Aussie indeed.

We saw some fair dinkum Aussie Beef Sausages in Woolies the other day. I tried to get Jason to take a photo of them for you but he didn’t
