Assault on Precinct 13

Nath and I got home a bit late from dinner to catch the start of any shows, so we decided to stay in and grab a movie on demand. After some debate, we settled on Assault on Precinct 13. If you’re after an action flick – think big time cops ‘n robbers – this is the film for you!

I’m pretty sure this film is actually a remake – but still, the concept is quite good. Instead of the classic “good guys v bad guys”, its “good guys v good guys that turned bad”. In order to survive, the “good guys” (cops) have to team up with some crims in order to fight off the “bad guys” (cops gone wrong). The other thing that I thought was totally original was that the characters that you’d peg with a very stereotypical role end up with a totally different fate to what you had expected. For example, there’s the the stunning psychiatrist, with lots of tension between her and the main character (Ethan Hawke). I had her pegged as the love interest within about 7 seconds. Turns out…. well, I’m not going to say. There’s an even bigger character surprise which I thought I’d definitely nailed – but again, was completely wrong.

This is definitely not one for the ladies (except maybe Lauren and Lou who can appreciate the action genre!), but boys – get out the remote controls and crank up the surround sound. gerrod.com rating: 8.5/10.
