Gerrod at Carnegie Deli

After starting our Saturday with yoghurt and gym (how healthy are we?!), wife and I were pretty hank. Originally our Saturday plan was to have lunch down at Katz Deli where we have eaten before. But good ol’ Caz said we should try Carnegie Deli instead – so off we trotted.

What can I say? Go hungry! There was a line out the front – way out the door – which was a bit discouraging, but as it turned out we only waited about 10 minutes before we were seated. Our sandwich and a big plate of pickles (which we promptly ignored) turned up less than 5 minutes after we ordered – impressive! And a sandwich that thick certainly satisfied my craving for hot pastrami.

The only drawbacks to our experience was that it took about 20 minutes for them to make my milkshake, and they only accept cash. Still, given some of the other creations we saw being served to other tables, I think we’ll be heading back there – perhaps next week, if Jason and Michelle are keen!

What’s wrong with pickles?! And how on EARTH did you fit that sandwich in your mouth?!

I love the fact that your blog features so many stories and pictures about food and places to eat! The only downside is it makes me hungry!!

Dude! I Love Pastrami. Brings me back to those Deli Days when we used to serve the stuff. (1 for you and 5 for me rule)

um, maybe I’ve missed something, but what does ‘hank’ mean when used in that context?

Jo: It’s quite easy, actually. You just go sideways, put in one corner at a time, then wedge the other corner in after it. I’ll get a photo of THAT for you next time :-)

Cathy: What can I say, we LOVE our food! Sorry for the side effect of making you hungry; it’s probably especially bad when you’re “eating for two” (sick of hearing that yet??) :-) . Hopefully it gives you some ideas of what to snack on at least!

MCD: For some reason, that reminds me of “My baloney has a first name, it’s H-O-M-E-R, my baloney has a second name it’s H-O-M-E-R…”

Stace: That one’s an Al word, and it’s rhyming slang. Hank –> Hank Marvin –> Starvin.
