Exactly how sweet is Brooklyn?

Yesterday we got a bit of sightseeing out of the way in the morning, visiting the courthouse made famous by Law and Order, and lunching at the South Street Seaport. Then we trekked across the Brooklyn Bridge (admiring the engineering feat on Paul Cotton’s behalf) to discover exactly how sweet Brooklyn is.

It turns out that Brooklyn is rather sweet indeed. I suspect that the signwriter, like us, has visited Jacques Torres chocolate shop!

This guy rocks. He makes his own chocolate right there in the factory beside the tiny two-table coffee shop. The connecting wall is glass so you can see into the factory where the magic happens. It turns out they even make chocolates called ‘magic wands’!

We indulged in an aptly named ‘wicked’ hot chocolate. It was a thick italian-style chocolate, made with chocolate (not cocoa) and spiced with chilli. It was absolutely awesome. As Melissa put it, “That’s the best $2.50 I ever spent!” We also indulged in a few handmade choccies with fillings such as port, raspberry and key lime…. Aaah.

I’d give the place 9/10 with one point being deducted for playing Michael Jackson’s ‘Heal the World’. The music, and Nathan’s mood, improved somewhat when the Who came on.

We wrapped the day up by watching the third Origin game and eating Dominos pizza with our Aussie guests and Lucy. Nathan was disappointed to discover that they don’t have supreme-style pizzas here and one or two toppings are more the norm. But the crust got a pretty high rating in his expert opinion. The game was a dud, but at least the company rocked! It was great to welcome Lucy back from Hong Kong, and great to have a little taste of home!

Well Jo – provided we’re still here, not only are you welcome to crash, but we’ll also ensure that this place is on your tour! After I heard what good value it was, even I was keen to check it out! (Since I was at work when the rest of the gang went, I missed out.. happens all the time… I mean, someone has to work to put a roof over these people’s heads… <sniff> <sniff>…)
