Last night it was raining, and the kids were tired from another day of touring around (without gerrod, poor gerrod). Needless to say, no-one wanted to decide what the fate of our evening should be. So, gerrod to the rescue – I made a fortune teller to predict what we should do instead!
Remember these things? You have to choose one of the squares on the outside, then one of the squares on the inside, and then it tells you your fortune with 100% certainty*. (Funny story, Kristy got in trouble in primary school for making these and selling them through her lunch break! She had them for sale in packs of 5 different sizes, or you could buy 2 and get one free… hilarious!)
Anyway, I ran the troops through the fortune teller, and each one picked a different thing to do (Kristy was going to watch a movie, Nathan was off to the gym, and Melissa was going to play cards) – so we didn’t end up doing any of them. Worst of all, no-one picked the best option – dessert at Serendipity 3! All that hard work in vain… though it did trigger Nathan’s memory of paper bangers, so we looked up how to make them, and made him one… which kept him entertained for hours minutes a couple of seconds. It was possibly the highlight of his whole trip.
*Certainty cannot be verified.

Aah yes I remember the paper bangers. But not pleasant memories – I could not get them to work as advertised and was very disappointed with the sound produced. Oh well another thing to mention to my therapist.
Keep trying! The secret is to keep using them… after about 20 or 30 bangs, the paper loosens up a bit which makes them louder. It’s all worth it, in some crazy, non-worthwhile way…
Must be a guy thing.
I used to love those things! But I can’t remember how to make them – any chance of posting some instructions???!!<br><br>Or perhaps I can put an order into Kristy? ; – )
Ha ha ha… good one Cath
<br><br>Here’s some instructions for making the <a href="http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/origami/fortuneteller/" target="_blank">"Origami Fortune Teller"</a> (also known as a "Cootie Catcher", apparently)!
Awesome – thanks! I’ll be very busy in the office this afternoon… : -)
