Memory tricks

A friend just shared a very funny, and apparently effective, memory trick with me. So here I go, sharing it with you!

“You’ve got to make a story out of what you’re trying to memorise, so you have to personify all of these abstract items and make them interact with each other in a linear story. So with Africa, I started on Egypt and kind of meandered along in a vague pattern through adjacent countries:

“The Pharaoh (Egypt) gives a burning bra to a women’s liberationist (Libya), who then spends a Night in Tunisia (Tunisia) with a man named Al (Algeria). When they awake Al has to take a Berocca (Morocco) before he heads west through the desert (Western Sahara). In the desert he is accosted by marauders (Mauritania) who have gone senile (Senegal). They demand two Guineas, the first of which they use to buy a Bistro meal (Guinea-Bissau and Guinea). Etc.”

So there you have it! If you try it out be sure to share the story you use!
