Shopping, shopping, and more shopping

No prizes for guessing what we did today. One of the best spots for shopping is down in the West Village, along Broadway from about West 8th down to Houston. Stacey had a huge list of climbing gear to invest in (“it’s so much cheaper over here!”), and of course clothing is always a bargain.

Our mission was quite successful – Stacey got all the gear she was after for less than she had budgetted, Kristy picked up a new hat, and I got me a new man-bag. We even bought Mom’s Christmas present, a whole 4 months early!

Quote of the day goes to one of our helpful sales assistants. After Jean asked her, “Why do the shirts in the Lacoste cabinet have a tiger on them instead of an alligator? Are they the same?”, she responded (slowly) with, “well yeah, I mean… they’re the same, but, they’re different…”.

I wish I was kidding. Clearly she loved her job.

Reminds me of a visit to the Nike store in Robina. Asked for a blue sandal size 9. The assistant returned with a brown ladies sandal size 7. So I kindly pointed out that the shoes in fact had nothing in common except the word Nike. And she said “We don’t have those ones so I thoght you would want this instead”.

Maybe its just US chains stores, like I went into the Disney store and asked for a Snow White doll. She brought back a Minnie Mouse in a skirt. I kindly pointed out that a mouse in a skirt doenst really pass for Snow White, and she replied that kids wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

I remember the sandals incident, though I think they were like size 13 weren’t they? I remember thinking that you’d have to be an 8 foot tall basketballer to fit into them.

Good call mate, brought back some very funny memories :-)

Well from our experiences in the USA you were lucky that the assistant even spoke to you!
