Back to reality… well, almost.

Wednesday marked the first day back from our little vacation away. It’s always hard going back to work after some time off, no matter how short the time off is (why do you think Mondays as so bad?!). However, with the opening of the GA this week, the security presence at the UN has been cranked up to the max. So much so that all staff were told “if your presence at the UN isn’t absolutely essential, please don’t come to work on Wednesday”. Woohoo, free day off!

And so, after a sleep in, some unpacking and some cleaning, Kristy and I headed to the gym to swim off some of the bonus calories that we ate during our vacation. For lunch, we headed to the Golden Krust Bakery, a shop which specializes in Jamaican cuisine. We had a hankering for some authentic patties! Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed; though their range and their prices were good, the flavour barely rates a mention compared to Mom’s!

We whiled away a lazy afternoon relaxing at home, before turning in for an early(ish) night. The security story at the UN was similar for yesterday and today – staff that weren’t essential to the running of operations were preferred to not come in. We were encouraged to either take annual leave, or work from home – so I chose the latter. And you know what that means – coffee on demand! Think I’ll go make myself another latte.

Wot a life. Can I work in the UN? By the way what is that you’re eating? It look scrum-diddly-umptious.

Errr… that’s one of the patties, Micah! Spicy beef if my memory serves me correctly. They weren’t too bad, but not as good as Mom’s!

Yeah the grand poobah dude always says that when he is thinking back to the origin of the surprise ingredient each week.
