Lucy told us about a new cafe downtown called The Tuckshop. As you’d probably guess by the name, it’s a quaint little store run by an Aussie, and it sells sausage rolls and pies. It’s been a good while since we’ve had any such delicacies, so we headed down with the Pearsons and the Webbs (kiwis) to check the place out.
The place is easy enough to miss – it’s just a tiny little red frame across the road from a park. When you get inside, the store isn’t much bigger – but for what they do, it’s perfect. A pie warmer mounts the front counter, behind which is a huge kitchen bench, a massive fridge, and of course some commercial sized ovens. All the food is made fresh on the premises, and with the number of patrons the place already seems to get, the turn-over of food is very fast – which means you avoid getting that sausage roll which has been “warming” all day.
And the food? Well, I don’t know if absence makes the palate grow fonder, but it was all delicious, especially the sausage rolls! And it was all quite reasonably priced too. To top it off – they even sell lamingtons, so Kristy and I shared one to finish off an absolutely delicious meal. We’ll be heading back down there again the next time we have cravings for some treats from home!

That’s great, but does it beat our pies down here?
Well – certainly one of the best sausage rolls that I’ve ever had, only rivalled by the ones from the corner shop down the road from Mum and Dad’s place. (Well, they used to be good, haven’t had one from there in ages!)

As for the pies – I don’t think they’ve quite got their recipe right yet, as the contents were a bit runny. The pastry was certainly delicious though!
Mmmmm lamingtons. I’d kill for a yummy soft chocolately lamington!
