I think I’ll make that my new catchcry. It’s got to work for a while, or at least until people start to recognise my ugly mug.
I’ve survived three days at work. The first day was great. I felt very important getting my ID badge and flashing it at all the security guards (some who weren’t even on duty!). But when Gerrod nudged me out of bed on day two, I’ll admit that I was annoyed to find that I actually did have to go back two days in a row. D’oh!
It’s a full-time gig and I work 2-3 weeks of day shifts, then switch and do a week night shifts. The documents that my unit produces are pretty important (and sometimes urgent) so the office operates at least sixteen hours a day. There’s an awful lot to learn, but the staff are really friendly and helpful and seem pleased with me so far.
So, it’s all good and will be even better when I finally get paid at the end of the month!

I have been working at QUT for almost 2 years now and I still use the excuse "I’m new" when I don’t know something (or don’t want to do something!). It’s become a bit of a joke in my team but when I started here I was told it would be at least 6 – 12 months before I knew how all the procedures worked. So I have stretched it out a little beyond 12 months .. oops! I am sure you could use the same excuse in your job for a good while!
I’m so excited that you are enjoying your new job. Even more excited that I can brag I have TWO friends who work for the U.N…gives me much street cred! I didn’t get my invitation to the ARIA’s though, must have got lost in the mail. Damn Australia Post! Doesn’t matter, as I am sure I will reach celebrity status very soon.
