Does anybody know what this is a picture of? That’s right, it’s a USPS post box. This is where you put your expensive items that you’d like sent in the mail. You can ask for delivery confirmation, parcel tracking, and even insurance – all from this useful, multi-purpose post box.
Alternatively, you can go into any USPS branch and talk to someone behind a counter – either way, the service and the end result will probably be the same.
Sadly for me, USPS has lost a parcel that we sent through the mail. Though we asked for delivery confirmation AND insurance, it seems that it was a fruitless exercise – the insurance was never applied. So to quote the girl behind the counter after I asked her if I’d ever see my package again – “probably not, sorry”.
So here’s the kicker. What’s in the package? Well, remember my beautiful sunglasses that I bought not so long ago? They turned out to be damaged as well – they had 2 tiny fractures in the left-hand lens. So, they were on their way back to Oakley (USD$230) encased in the protective vault I bought for them (USD$20). And, since the frames on my old pair of Oakley C-Wires needed to be retuned, they were also in the package (USD$160), and also encased in a vault (USD$20).
$430.

That sucks, but fight them. Did you sign a receipt for the insurance? I would think you had to list the contents and price estimate and sign something, I think I’ve done it before. If so, you have a receipt, they need to reimburse you, that’s the point of the insurance. Whether they applied it or not isn’t your problem, it’s their’s. Unfortunately when it comes to customer service in NYC, a lot of times you must tell them what they’re going to do for you
Poor Brother G! What a sad, sad story. Just goes to confirm my scariest moments in NYC were those in the post office (not the subway). Keep an eye out on the streets though for "lost" sunnies on PO workers’ faces.

We are pretty lucky here with Australia Post I reckon. Our Rancilio coffee machine was also "lost" in the post, as were several others from the supplier. Fortunately in our case, the insurance was for real and we were just sent another one.
and to make matters worse..they freakin lost my Birthday present…I was so looking forward to my new oakleys…
