Poor Brother G! What a sad, sad story. Just goes to confirm my scariest moments in NYC were those in the post office (not the subway). Keep an eye out on the streets though for "lost" sunnies on PO workers' faces.

We are pretty lucky here with Australia Post I reckon. Our Rancilio coffee machine was also "lost" in the post, as were several others from the supplier. Fortunately in our case, the insurance was for real and we were just sent another one.

That sucks, but fight them. Did you sign a receipt for the insurance? I would think you had to list the contents and price estimate and sign something, I think I've done it before. If so, you have a receipt, they need to reimburse you, that's the point of the insurance. Whether they applied it or not isn't your problem, it's their's. Unfortunately when it comes to customer service in NYC, a lot of times you must tell them what they're going to do for you ;)
