After 2 fabulous weeks off, I’m back to work today. Unfortunately the HR system at the UN is an absolute nightmare, which meant my ordinarily productive morning was lost to filling out paperwork and walking between the various buildings to see different people.
Though paid leave is inarguably better than unpaid leave, it was divine to have 2 weeks off. That’s the first decent break from work that I’ve had since K and I got married last year. I’d actually say that 2 weeks isn’t quite long enough to have off, as it was only towards the end of the second week that I started feeling relaxed. I think a third (and perhaps a fourth) week would be more beneficial to ones relaxation and overall state of health.
I must admit that I was surprised how busy things were on the home front. It really made me appreciate how much stuff Kristy took care of in our first months here, whilst I was working and she was the stay-at-home caretaker. Admittedly I spent a lot of time working on various projects for different people, but I still thought I would have had more free time – time where I basically had nothing to do, and could spend it doing whatever I pleased.
Overall, we learnt that the system that would work best for Kristy and I would be to have her work full time, and me work full time (or at least 75% of the time) from home. Now we just have to find a job (and a location!) where we can make that a reality.

thanks for taking such good care of me for two weeks gerrod! i think we each have a newfound appreciation for each other’s woes and responsibilities.
MMM…. stay at home husband what a great idea! It is a shame reality is so cruel. I cant see why people wont pay big bucks for you to stay home and work in your jamys. It’s a job us stay at home Mum’s dream of.
See, us stay-at-homers do have a lot to do during the day! <br>Now try a stint with a 4 month old
You get NOTHING done!!!!
