A year ago today, on our first full day in New York, we went walking aimlessly, just to get a sense of the city. We were delighted to stumble upon Central Park and sat down near the Wollman Rink (of Apprentice fame) to take some photos. Ever since, I’ve been eager to put some ice-skates on and glide effortlessly around the rink.
All last winter we planned to go skating but due to bad weather, poor planning and sheer laziness, we never quite got there (and it’s only sixteen blocks from home). When the rink closed for Summer I could have kicked myself for missing the opportunity. I was determined not to let that happen again, so when Sunday’s temperatures were forecast to be mild (about 15 degrees C) we decided to give it a go.
I’m so glad we did! I used to love ice-skating as a teenager and skating outdoors is so much nicer. And seeing everyone in their matching little hats and gloves was pretty cute too. I didn’t ‘glide effortlessly’ as I had planned, but I didn’t fall over either (neither did Gerrod), which was pretty impressive considering how crowded the rink was.
Now we’re keen to skate at Rockefeller Center, or maybe at the newly opened Bryant Park rink. Just as soon as my blisters heal….

What are you talking about, "only 16 blocks"?! They’re mainly the LONG blocks, it’s almost a 15 minute walk! Ewww… walking….
G, just think of the walk as your warm up for all that skating!
Looks like heaps of fun
Awesome. As touristy as it may seem, I think it’d be quite the experience doing it at the Rockafella centre!
be cool to go at night too (pardon da pun!).
oh, soo jealous! very happy your there out and about though!
