So it’s not very Australian, but Kristy and I went to the Tribeca Grill for dinner on Thursday night to take advantage of their prix fixe menu – only $35 for three splendid courses during restaurant week. To Aussie it up a bit, we ordered a bottle of Australian Wine to drink with our meal.
The choices at first seemed a bit restrictive, but wifey and I ended up ordering completely different things, so I guess they were catering well to all palates. I figured that I’d give the Quail a burl as my appetizer, having never had it before (at least that I can remember). As predicted, it tastes like chicken, only it’s a bit softer (i.e. juicier).
Overall, the Tribeca Grill is one of those places that has exceptional service, a wine list the size of an encyclopedia (they have 3 wine cellars), and steep prices for average sized portions. I’ll admit that the food was very well presented, and that by the end of our meal we were both sufficiently full, but with a price tag of $130 after tax and tip for a meal for 2, I’m not sure that I’ll be rushing back there. I would have been just as happy (and about $123 better off) splurging on some guacamole for my chicken fajita from Chipotle.

sounds like you need to start your own chipotle franchise. i reckon if i did a search on your site for chipotle i’d have every story come up.
I have a feeling we had quail or something similar last time we visited Uncle Martyn. It may not have been quail, but I remember is was some sort of small bird!
Actually, only 10 stories Ben!
Wow, what happenned to taking advantage of the $35 prix fixe meu? Or can I just not add up right? $60 for tip and a bottle of wine!
Unfortunately you’re right, but that also included the tax and tip…
That’s still an expensive bottle of wine! I guess we are spoilt here with the range of quality cheap wines!
$42 for the bottle of wine, from memory. That was WAY at the cheap end of the price scale. Gimme a byo restaurant any day!
