Surprise, BaM!

Pat was kind enough to come out to Heathrow stupidly early on Saturday morning and collect us, which not only saved us from negotiating the Tube by ourselves, but also gave us a great opportunity to catch up with him, and get the low-down on London.

Soon we arrived at Raoul’s where we were to have breakfast, and after Pat confirmed that the birds were in the nest, Kristy and I walked in and took Ben and Michelle by surprise.

Michelle screamed.

Ben swore.

Overall it was a rather effective entrance. We all enjoyed a delicious English breakfast (including a much needed latte), and then Kristy and I headed back to BaM’s house to freshen up (we still felt like post flight trash).

BaM's block of flats in Chiswick

For our first day of adventuring in London, we caught a red double decker bus from right outside BaMsville, into Oxford Street (central London) where we again met up with Pat. We walked along dodging the crowds, and being shocked by the prices (well, Kristy and I were shocked, the others are used to things being expensive here).

The Millennium Wheel and Big Ben

From Oxford Street (that’s one of the greenies on the monopoly board), we headed to Piccadilly Circus. Now, to Kristy and I, a circus is something with a big top and lots of clowns. Maybe even acrobatics if it’s a half decent circus. But not in London – a circus here is basically something round. To be honest I still haven’t exactly worked it out, but I guess I’m over it now.

The rest of the day seems like a blur now, something about lack of sleep and running on stimulants like coffee and red bull. But the photos that I have indicate we also saw the Millennium Eye (the big ferris wheel thingy) and Big Ben (the big clock thingy).

It was a short tube ride back to BaM’s apartment, where Kristy and I were very pleased to hit the sack. Needless to say, we slept very, very soundly.
