Latte Art

Lovely wifey told me the other day that she had “ordered me a surprise”, and whilst I hate surprises, I knew that it would be something good. Unfortunately for me though, Kristy never gives away clues (even if she did I’d never guess it), so I just put it out of my mind and decided I’d wait until it came.

So today, the secret package arrived in the mail – a Latte Art Steaming Pitcher! What a thoughtful wifey! Basically it’s a stainless steel pitcher with a very narrow spout, which makes it easier to pour latte art. Compare here the old pitcher (left) with the new one:

Old vs New

Of course, any excuse for a coffee is a good excuse, so I went straight over to the machine to rip one out. And the result? Well, see for yourself:

My first attempt

It’s a very different pouring experience, and clearly I need a bit more practice. You can see from the coffee on the left, I under-estimated how much “run” I’d get from the milk, resulting in the big white puddle there. But still, the “leaves” are nice and fine, and the narrow spout gives so much more control over the flow of the milk. I can’t wait to try another one! What a great surprise! What a great wifey!

I’m very impressed! Can you do any Aussie inspired latte art? You know, like the national emblem or something? ;-)

Oh! A challenge! I like it! I’ll see what I can come up with. This morning kristy’s coffee had a little puppy in it, but it was a very abstract looking puppy… :-)

What about a kangaroo or something?

Yeah – surely the Qantas kangaroo wouldn’t be too hard?? :-)

"The Scream" by Edvard Munch would be impressive.<br>Please be a little more circumspect with the phrase "rip one out". Ian E could be reading this.
