Holy moly, did it snow overnight! New York has been whaled by the second biggest snow storm on record – 22.8″ of snow in Central Park! We were even woken by thunder and lightning last night, the first time we’ve seen or heard a storm since we’ve been here.
So of course, being the little kids at heart that we are, we rugged up as quickly as possible this morning to go out and take some photos. We had to use Kristy’s little camera as it was the only one I could keep sufficiently protected from the blizzard (it’s still snowing, even as I write this).
The city is very different when the snow is so heavy. For a start, there’s barely any cars on the road (ahhh, peace and quiet). The only people out are either taking photos, playing with their dogs (so cute!), or on skis!
The forecast says the snow should stop sometime between 2 PM and 5 PM, so if its still light we might head up to Central Park and take some more piccies. In the meantime, check out this short video of the view of 1st Avenue from our apartment (note the guy in the red jacket who is on skiis), or have a look at the photos from this morning:

Update: It’s 3 PM and still snowing (though more lightly now), but the sanitation crews have the snow ploughs loaded on their trucks, and they have started clearing the roads. Here’s another video of one working outside our window (commentated by Kristy!).

Oh man – I wish like heck it would snow like that in London. So pretty!
SNOW DAY !! YOU GUYS HAVE ALL THE FUN. ARE YOU READY FOR THAT TRIP TO FLORIDA NOW?
Wow – those pics are amazing! What a contrast to hot and humid Brisbane…
All that snow looks rad, especially compared to brisbane where it’s still hot and humid
. MC says it reminds her of Narnia (from the movie i’m assuming, i don’t think she’s actually been there). So i wonder where all the water goes when the snow melts? They must have pretty good drains…
Actually, no. They’re forecasting floods on Thursday when temperatures rocket up to a steamy 12 degrees c and it all melts. Then on Friday it’s going to rain. Eeek!
