Growing up reading American novels, I always thought that the campfire tradition of making s’mores sounded terrific. I had no idea what s’mores were or what they looked or tasted like, but I still wanted some (and maybe even s’more).
So last night I whipped up a few of these fine American treats. In the absence of a campfire, I melted the giant jet puffed marshmallows in the oven (and let me just say, they’re no match for Pascall’s), before whacking them between two graham crackers with a little chocolate.
They’re actually pretty good! The crackers are sweet, the marshmallows gooey, and the chocolate slightly melted by contact with the marshmallow. You do end up with ‘em all over your face but I suppose that is part of the fun.

What sort of chocolate did you use? I seem to recall from my S’mores lesson (thanks Sami and Dani) it had to be Hersheys.
Yummo. My kinda treat.
One of my colleagues just back from Aust has this morning brought in a packet of Caramello Koalas. Forgot how good these little fellas are!
Mmmmm. Caramello Koalas….
Yes, did use Hersheys for the authentic experience.
Oh, yeah, give me s’more! I can’t believe you Aussies don’t make them! Ugh. We even have s’more flavored candy, and all that good stuff…I can’t believe we didn’t show you s’mores (or did we?)! The horror! It must have slipped our minds when you visited.
Oh, HAPPY PI DAY! (Come on, gerrod, I know that you have to know this one! March 14th….3.14[159] It should be said at 1:59:26 to be really accurate, but I’ll just settle for this…)
Sorry Sammy, you lucked out on 2 fronts here! Firstly, this was the very first time I’ve had s’mores, I believe Jason was introduced to them by y’all, but not I… playing favourites, hey?
As for “pi day”, I hadn’t heard of that one either! Though I guess it’s because we write our dates the other way around, i.e. dd/mm rather than mm/dd. Oh well, the things you learn!
You really need the toasted marshmallow, campfire aspect. They go from good to great
In the spirit of dd/mm dates, our PI-Day would have to be 31st April…just need to re-arrange the calendar. Perhaps we could shift 29th February and have one every 4 years (as well as of course 14th March!!!)
