Everybody has their own tastes (and their own quirks) but I’ve just discovered a new one. Some of my workmates drink coffee out of mugs. Old school. Some drink it from a paper take-away cup and microwave reheat it every half hour (firstly, ewww, and secondly, if it’s a good coffee, why are you still nursing it half an hour later?). Some drink from a thermos. Smart.
But now I’ve discovered a few colleagues (you know who you are) drinking coffee from a take-away cup through a straw. Now that’s just plain weird. When questioned on it they inevitably reply, “I don’t want to yellow my teeth”. Hmmm. Does that even work? I honestly don’t know. Maybe they’ll all be laughing at my yellow teeth in 20 years while I curse Gerrod and his irresistable coffees.
I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for other unusual coffee behaviours and will be sure to report back.
Btw: thanks for the great coffee modeling JP.

Bizarre! So how do you not burn your tongue (or the back of your throat!) when drinking coffee like that? At least if sipping from a thermos, your lip gets some sort of warning about the temperature of your beverage and you can then decide to abort or keep the mission going. Surely you’d have to wait for it to be at the perfect temperature before using a straw and then you’d have to drink it pretty quickly because the perfect temperature doesn’t hang around for very long!
