That’s the theme of a long email chain that’s been going on between my workmates and I in the last few weeks as we oenophile’s searched for a suitable date to escape the city and hit a few wineries in Dutchess County, upstate New York.
We finally agreed to go last weekend and set out early (by NY standards) at 11am in the Clairemobile. After about 86 miles of driving on less than perfect roads, Ginny and I were both turning a little green in the backseat and thrilled to arrive at Millbrook and start drinking in the… country air.
After a short tour of the winery, a tasting of their wines, olive oil and crackers, and a few purchases we reluctantly retook our seats. We hoped to lunch at the CIA (Culinary Institute of America folks, not the other CIA) but arrived to find the restaurant closed.
So on we travelled to New Paltz, a hippy/biker town for a late, but great, Greek lunch. Our final stop was Rivendell Wines where I was disappointed to find no elves, but happy to make a few more purchases before heading home.
