Jason and Louise kindly came out to the airport to welcome us to Sydney, and – like all good friends – it felt like we’d seen them only yesterday! Unfortunately though, our luggage wasn’t on the plane with us. (I was actually sitting at the window seat in the second-last row, and when we landed I watched the guys remove all the luggage from the plane. Since I didn’t see our bag come out, I was a little worried, but at least when our bag didn’t turn up on the carousel, I wasn’t too surprised.)
Anyway, Rob at the luggage services desk was a perfect picture for customer service. First, he apologized for the inconvenience, then he checked out the back to see if the bag was out there for some reason. When it was clear that it wasn’t, he took down our details, so he knew where to deliver the bag, and promised to give us a call in a half hour for a status update. Finally, he gave us both a “sorry we lost your luggage” pack, containing some pyjamas, toiletries, and even some washing detergent (in case you need to wash and rewear your clothes). They’ll make very nice toiletries bags for future travel!
Thankfully, our luggage caught the next flight down, so it was delivered by another nice Qantas man about an hour after we got back to Jason and Louise’s apartment. All’s well that ends well! Oh, and at least it was a nice clear night – we got a great view of Brisbane city from the plane.
The Convention Centre and the Story Bridge are very well lit up!
