Cars

Last night, we had set out to see the new Adam Sandler film – Click – however we were discouraged by the bad reviews. So instead, we ended up watching Disney/Pixar’s new film, Cars!

LightningMcQueen

In short – this film is excellent! At least, if you have enjoyed Pixar’s other animated films – Toy Story/2, A Bugs Life, Monsters Inc – then you should certainly enjoy this one too.

The star of the film is Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson), an arrogant racecar well positioned to become the first rookie to win the Piston Cup. On a long-haul drive to California, McQueen gets stuck in Radiator Springs – a forgotten old town off America’s famous Route 66. Through the towns remaining (yet colourful) inhabitants, he learns that there’s more to life than winning, and the true value of friendship.

Yes, there really is something in this film for everyone. As usual, the best parts are things from our everyday lives that have been translated into the animated world, for example the talkshow of Jay Limo (voiced by Jay Leno). Pixar also keep up their traditions, with a short-film that previews the movie, and a very, very entertaining credits sequence. The soundtrack is also fantastic – featuring artists such as Sheryl Crow and John Mayer, and remixes of songs such as “Life is a Highway” and “Route 66″. Finally – we were lucky enough to see the movie in a digital cinema, which meant the picture quality was brilliant, and the surround sound was really effective.

This is a great flick – well worth shelling out your hard-earneds to catch it. gerrod.com rating: 9/10.

Great to hear the movie was good but do you think a lot of these CGI files are becoming a little bit of the same thing?

Hmm, yes and no – I think that Pixar have a definite style, and each movie is similar to the last – but I don’t think that’s any more true for the animated flicks than it is for normal movies.

That said; this is exactly why I’m such a huge fan of M. Night Shyamalan’s movies :-)
