The Millennium Development Goals

It’s been a very hectic few weeks for me at work, finishing up a website that I’ve been working on since the start of the year. But after weeks of late nights and weekend work, the website is finally online!

So for all you folks who wonder exactly what it is I do each day, please check out the brand spanking new United Nations website for the Millennium Development Goals Indicators at http://mdgs.un.org/.

Note: My part of the project is basically everything you see – the design, layout, and functionality of the website; as well as all the supporting code and database functionality. The content is provided by the other members of the team.

Nice drop-down menu. What did you use?

Menu for ASP.NET by ComponentArt. It’s quite good, nice and flexible etc; but very heavy-weight with all the JS :-|

Great work babe – does this mean you’re coming home tonight?! ;-)

Nice site! I have some major criticisms though –

* Where is the scrolling banner text?
* In Contact us – no use of animated folding letter moving in and out of a letter box?
* Poor use of background colour and foreground text. Try bright blue background, lime text.
* No use of frames.
* No continuous MIDI track to greet me on arrival and soothe during my visit to the site (Fur Elise works well).
* Consistent use of header styles and body text. Why can’t you mix things up a bit.
* No ‘Under Construction’ / ‘Coming soon’ pages.
* Broken links? Gone?
* No web ring affiliate box at bottom of page.
* Images are not bitmap, and under 500KB.

;)

Hi Gerrod, I have been working with ComponentArt Web.UI since Feb, 2006. Well, I agree that a lot of Javascript are needed. Also, I get in touch with asp.net 2.0 lately too.

How are you lately? If you want to see some photos of my daughter Rebecca Woo, please go to:

Rebecca is turning 1 next week (10/Jul).

Are you considering have child soon ?

Scott – all excellent points, thank you very much! With the number of review committees that were formed and disbanded, solely for the purpose of reviewing the website – you would think that they would have picked some of that stuff up! But noooo…. I’ll get cracking on the amendments right now. Perhaps I should start with the old Windows colour scheem, “HotDog”… ?

John – Great to hear from you – your daughter is beautiful! Things for us lately have been very busy! No, we won’t be having kids anytime soon – but sometime in the future I’m sure!
