Since it gets so freakin’ hot in Manhattan during summer, Kristy and I find ourselves at the movies quite often, just to escape the humidity. This was the case a few days ago when we rocked up to see Superman Returns – though we were both happy to be seeing the movie, we were just as happy to be out of the heat!
So let me cut right to the point: this movie is an epic. At over two-and-a-half hours, this isn’t one for the faint of heart. But old-school fans of the superman genre will probably celebrate this fact; and to be honest, the movie doesn’t drag in the least.
I won’t waste my time describing the premise of Superman; if you don’t know who he is, you must have been living in a cave for your entire life. And even if this describes you to a tea, the movie does a great job of recapping all the vital points in effectively a throw-away scene – all for the benefit of ignorant viewers (admittedly – like me).
Directed by Bryan Singer (of X-Men 2 and The Usual Suspects fame), this is not just your ordinary “comic book brought to life” movie. No; instead, Singer tries to create realistic characters that the audience can relate to – and in my opinion, he does a good job of it. And, there’s just enough of everything – drama, humour, and old school superhero action – to keep just about everyone interested; so if you too are looking to “beat the heat” (or the cold if it’s winter in your part of the world), well – you could do a lot worse than shelling out to see this flick.

I would give it the same GT. I thought that the movie rocked big time.
