Hammers in the rain

Yesterday was rainy in New York – I think we got the tail end of Brisbane’s weekend rain! Actually it was coming down quite heavy at times; lucky we bought ourselves a “one-bedroom apartment” umbrella!

Anyway, on my way home from work (I had an early mark to pick up a surprise guest from the airport), I noticed that Dag Hammarskjold plaza was covered in the fallen leaves from the force of the rain. The council here (or whatever their equivalent is) is obsessed with keeping the ground spotless – but I have no idea why, as the leaves on the ground were absolutely beautiful! So after getting home, Jason and I raced back with our cameras to take a few snaps of the plaza before it fell victim to the council’s leaf blowers.

Dag Hammarskjold Plaza

Don’t you reckon they should leave it like that?

Yeah, who had the stupid idea that leaves are bad and noisy machinery is good? One of the evil characters in a book I’m reading says “The world is not for fun. the world is for controlling.” Too many people believe that.
