Where did the weekend go?

Last I checked it was Friday night, and now all of a sudden it’s Monday morning again?! I guess time flies when you’re having fun, and overall it was a very fun weekend.

On Friday night we headed out to Damien and Lisa’s apartment in Jersey City, where we had the privilege of meeting Damien’s wonderful parents, David and Joan. It’s their first time in the States, and it’s always great to hear stories about the place that you live from the perspective of a newcomer. The hours quickly melted away over a few bottles of wine, and Lisa’s typically delicious cooking (though we noticed a distinct lack of meatballs for the first time ever).

Saturday and Sunday were both very “routine” – cleaning the apartment, wrapping/sending Christmas presents, washing, gym (I ran a total of 6km over the weekend!), etc – but it felt great to finally get on top of our “To Do” lists. (Speaking of which, I now use NetVibes for my browser’s home page, which has a “To Do List” plugin – a very handy way to keep your To Do lists on the web).

Last night I felt like a steak, so Sibylle and Jürgen joined us for dinner at the Outback Steakhouse, a Lonestar-like “Australian” restaurant which isn’t really very Australian (they don’t have any Aussie beers on tap (Fosters doesn’t count), and they don’t know how to make an LLB!). Still, their prices are quite reasonable, and their steak is pretty good, so it’s hard to complain.

After dinner, we headed back to Sibylle and Jürgen’s place to try out some authentic Austrian Schnapps. Holy moly, these things were nothing like Butterscotch Schnapps that we get in Australia! At around 40% pure, they were hot and potent!

All that socialising meant we didn’t get home until late, but we couldn’t resist watching the grand finale of Survivor: Cook Islands before bed. It was a fantastic finish! I won’t give away the ending in case it hasn’t aired in other parts of the world yet – but suffice to say, it’s a corker!

By the time we finally got to bed, it was around 1AM, so the coffee has been flowing this morning. But I’m still tired; maybe tonight we’ll go to bed early… doubt it… !

That sounds like a pretty good weekend to me :)
Just add in the routine 4:30 wake up calls from Owen and that’s a little like our weekend was

Grant and I stopped watching survivor after Nine inexplicably put it on at 10.30pm and we kept forgetting to tape it. We tried to stay up for it, but as Meegan said, little people seem to want to get up with the birds. Late nights and early starts make for a very grumpy mummy and daddy. :-)

Thanks for the Chrissie card BTW!

Sounds like a great weekend.
Hi to all the Cannavan’s if you’re checking out your story on the blog.

Yep, I totally get what you mean about the schnapps. My first time in Germany John’s sister took me to a schnapps store to do some tasting. Imagine my surprise when expecting a sweet syrupy liqueur that what actually met my lips was this potent, disgusting alcohol that only crazy people must drink.

Anyway John’s sister tells me it is particularly good after an oily meal. I’ve tried this too and about all it is good for me is inducing upchucking.

I’m sure it’s an acquired taste. :)
