With a long weekend for Easter, I was determined to “get out there!”, take a day-trip and venture outside the city. But with temps dipping as low as minus 1, I forgot all that and used every excuse possible to stay indoors!
We did make a couple of exceptions to the indoors-only rule. I made it to gym three days in a row (yay!). We had brunch at the Corner Shop Cafe on Bleeker Street. I love this place! Their menu has a lot of organic/free range/fair trade/bio-dynamic/wheat-free/vegan/blah blah options, but my fave thing is the pressed tin ceilings and funky chandeliers (there’s a pic on their website).
We intended to shop in Soho afterwards, but wussed out because of all the cold and windiness and sheltered in the cinema and watched “Blades of Glory” (kristy.gerrod.com rating: 7 out of 10). I was surprised by how much I laughed! And I don’t even like Will Ferrell that much (sorry Gerrod!) Then, while I snuggled up with a DVD, Gerrod headed out with Karl to play pool.
And for our official Easter celebration, we had dinner at Damien and Lisa’s. The food was great. The company was great (Lisa’s Mum, D’s Aussie buddy Scott, and quiz queen Kersti). No surprises there! What did surprise me was the Easter activity Scott brought along with him – Jousting Peeps. You see, Peeps are these weird lollies that are supposed to be marshmallow but are so processed and fluorescent coloured that it’s hard to believe they’re food.
Anyway, Scott said that if we licked the sides of them, attached toothpicks then microwaved two little warriors facing each other, they would fight. So we did. The little horrors grew and grew until they melded into one big yellow blob, and plunged their little wooden jousting sticks into each other! I’ve never heard Lisa laugh so hard! I’m not sure that this is an American Easter tradition, but I’m going to pretend that it is. Americans are weird.

How interesting….you can see the golf in the background..
Michelle – sorry I forgot to take a photo of them! I *did* take a video of them but it didn’t turn out so good – the microwave door was too opaque!
Lisa – yeah, what are the chances of that?! We must have taken the photo for the split second that the TV happened to be on… !
Good to see Lindt bunnies travel the world
